Galapagos Island Tortoises: Chelonodus nigra
Category: Rare & Exotic
All of our Galapagos Tortoises are captive born here in Florida after many decades of hard work by a small group of very dedicated breeders, from breeding sized adults that we legally brought to the United States 30, 40 and many even 50 years ago. Because Galapagos Tortoises are recognized as an endangered species by the United States Fish and Wild Service, we can only accept orders for them from Florida residents.Galapagos Tortoises are one of nature's rarest and most protected species - so anyone considering keeping them must be sure to provide the proper set up/pen and give them all the care that they need. We are happy to help with questions you may have about their set up and husbandry.
* Over the years, along with many Americans, we have been generous supporters of the Ecuadorian Galapagos breeding project in the Galapagos Islands. Many of us have traveled to the Galapagos islands to see and appreciate the very important work being done there. Please understand that the Tortoises we offer hatch right here in Florida, and as required by law, all Florida born and bred Galapagos tortoises must stay in Florida - thank you.
