One of the world's smallest turtles, the Reeves turtle, or Chinese three keeled pond turtle, is one of the many Asian species threatened by over collecting for the Chinese food market. This is the same friendly, sharp featured little turtle that was popular in the pet trade in the 1970's and before. Thankfully, they breed readily for several US keepers today.
Reeves Turtles, (Chinemys reevesii), love to bask. They are omnivorous, feeding readily on pellets, aquatic plants, fruits and greens, along with worms, insects, fish and meat.
With a maximum size of only 4 - 5 inches, Reeves Turtles make excellent first turtles. This is a very hardy species, with lots of personality, making them fine additions to any collection.
