Parker's Snake-Necked Turtles Adults: Chelodina parkeri

Description

What seems to about once every 10 years or so, a few "new blood" Adult Parker's Snake-Necked Turtles are saved from food markets in countries that consider them a delicacy, and make their way to Turtle keepers here in the US. We have 2 such turtles. Under these conditions, Adult Parkeri can show up a little scuffed up... Both of these are breeding sized females. One is has a nearly flawless 10" shell and is in top shape. The second is 9 inches and has lots of surface nicks on it's carapace (top shell), but is otherwise in good condition. Both are eating fish and are doing very well for "new immigrants". Almost never available, either of these turtles is your opportunity to become only the second American breeder to successfully breed this highly sought after species...

One of the rarest of the Snake-Necks, Parker's Snake-Necked Turtles are found only in lakes and rivers on the island of New Guinea - and no where else in the world. In the US, only one breeder has been able to hatch them with regularity...

Parker's are hands down the prettiest of all the Snake-Necks, with white, pale green, and sometimes even yellow head markings. The carapace (top shell) is normally light brown with markings that match the head along the marginal (outer) scutes. The plastron (bottom shell) is white, yellow or even pink...

Just like the other Snake-Necks, Parker's are an exceptionally long necked super predator. Initially a bit clumsy as hatchlings, these little carnivores quickly transform into one of the most impressive hunting species ever to prowl a glass tank... They do very well with other snake-necks and other highly aquatic Asian species like Pink Belly Side-Necks...
