Western Painted Turtles grow to be the largest of the painted turtles (typically 6-7 inches). They range from Canada to Mexico, so adults, once acclimated, make very good outdoor pond turtles in all climates. Juveniles do well in community tanks, learn to come to feeding hands, love to bask, and stay very active.
True omnivores, they will eat pellets, most water plants, romaine lettuce, insects, fish, worms crustaceans and meat. Western Painted Turtles are distinctly different from other painteds in that they have very impressive red and black belly patterns. An excellent choice for beginning and intermediate keepers.
One of the best and most common choices for garden ponds, adult Western Painted Turtles quickly learn and adapt to their new environments, constantly bask and surface, and learn to recognize their keepers quickly. They add lots of color to your garden pond, and are more visible than most pond turtles. Ours readily eat pellets, water plants, romaine lettuce and cut fish. An excellent choice for both warm and colder climates, Western Painted Turtles get along with most other popular garden pond species.

Western Painted Turtle 3/4”
Overall healthy turtle, he/she came slightly bigger than expected. I had selected no imperfections but the turtle’s shell came slightly imperfect on the top middle part and the bottom part. I’m not going to ship him/her back. As I am in NY and it’s winter time, It’s been almost a week, he’s been under a UV lamp and he’s still not eating the pellets that I purchased from TS. I was told this was normal. From my experience aquatic turtles generally are not picky eaters. I finally couldn’t wait any longer. I fed him frozen blood worms that I defrosted and right away he ate 2 full cubes! He still won’t touch the pellets though! I was planning on ordering a baby red foot tortoise from TS but now I’m unsure if I will do so…

The turtle arrived on time, it was safe and healthy. The turtle was very active, and had a lot of energy.

Got the little guy exactly as promised. When I unboxed him, he was active, colorful, and very alert. Dropped him in the aquarium and he proceeded to immediately eat everything in sight. Super healthy little guy, obviously very high quality operation! Will do business again certainly.
