Red-footed Tortoises are the inhabitants of the exotic jungles of the Caribbean, Central and South America. They are quite intelligent, they have good memory and learn rapidly where and when food is available; and where shelter and basking is to be found. They have a strong sense of smell, and their sense of touch includes even the slightest contact with their shell.
Grasses, clover hay, dark, leafy greens, (except for spinach) cactus, carrots and mixed vegetables are all good for Red-footed Tortoises. Sweet, red fruits are their favorites. Supplements that are high in calcium and low in phosphorus, are best for this hearty species.
Red-footed Tortoises do very well in community settings. With a little extra care, hatchlings thrive with other tortoises. Shallow, warm water soaking every third day, a warm basking spot and plenty of food is the key for these pretty starter tortoises.

Our family had a great experience from start to finish with the turtle source. As a parent who wanted to make sure that I was making a responsible informative decision before buying a pet, specifically a tortoise I was happy to see I didn’t have to look far as the turtle source had a considerable amount of information already on their site for each specific breed. Again as a parent navigating the site I found it easy and I personally think the prices are extremely reasonable as well. My sons loved how informative the shipping was and checked the tracking hourly and it was updated hourly. Lastly when I called with a couple of questions I had absolutely no problems getting through, again as a clueless or learning rather parent I appreciate that and just being able to have that resource on standby. We decided to order after seeing a discount on these little babies, i received mine the day after i ordered, the ups guy didnt see me and was rough with the package shaking it. My turtle was flipped when i opened but warmed him & he ate immediately after. Such a healthy appetite, and great personality. Cant wait to further get to know the little fella. I love my newest child.
