Nicaraguan Ornate Turtles are possibly the most durable of all turtles. Nicaraguan Ornate Sliders are pretty - but are considered strong survivors at all costs. They have a colorful mix of greens, yellows, and black circular patterns, and they are the turtle equivalent of armored tanks.
An excellent starter/first turtle, they're fine by themselves or are perfectly at home in a community tank with most other similar sized turtles. We start ours out on pellets and greens but they will also take fish, meat & worms and they can learn to eat from your hand very quickly.
In nature, Nicaraguan Ornate Sliders come from a very limited range in Costa Rica and Nicaragua where not surprisingly, they share the water with Lake Nicaraguan Sharks. There, it is their pretty shell that gets them in trouble as they are collected both for their meat and their brightly colored shells - famous for their decorative circular patterns. As adults they make fine warmer pond turtles giving even the biggest raccoon reason to move on...
As hatchlings and adults, these are one pretty and tough turtle-- one that makes turtle keeping very easy.

This was my first purchase with the turtle source . Very unsure At first as I've never bought a turtle online. Before so I was nervous about .my purchase . However it went very smoothly ups said they would. Be to me by noon . At 11;45 they pulled up to the house . The shipping box was in perfect condition . Got excited at that point about my baby hatchlings . I open the box and there was turtle pellets and the container they came in both of them looking up at me . They were both calm and easy to handle they came right out to me and they were absolutely perfect they were playful and seemed to. E happy when I put them in with my one year old red eared slider .. the vet along better than perfect they swim and play and bask together like they have been here since day one ..I would highly recommend the turtle source to anyone looking for a great pet that's happy and healthy this is your place to go ... Definitely will. E using them for all my purchases from now on no questions if it will allow me to I will post pics of .h new additions

5 Our sweet Nicaraguan Ornate Slider

We recently became turtle parents in our family and our first sweet turtle did not last very long. He would not eat and we think something was not OK with him. The turtle source was super kind and helpful and we’re willing to send us another one with no charge. They have been very helpful and knowing whether or not we’re doing all the right things to protect our turtle and keep them healthy and safe.

Received this beautiful healthy turtle in perfect condition, shipped overnight . This little turtle is bright-eyed and frisky. She has adapted well to a tank with two Mississippi Map turtles which I 'very ordered previously from The Turtle Source. Great company, great turtles. Will definitely order again and highly recommend to anyone interested in turtles an tortoises bred in Floride. Five stars!
