Product Description

One of North America's most recognizable fully aquatic Turtles, the Common Snapping Turtle, inhabits nearly all bodies of slow moving, soft bottomed water, fresh and brackish, from Nova Scotia to Mexico, east of the Rocky Mountains. In Florida it gives way to the Florida Snapping Turtle.

Common Snapping Turtles are true omnivores, and will eat anything they can fit into their mouths. Juveniles freely forage for food, while adults prefer to be ambush predators, lying in wait for the next passing meal. These tendencies make all sizes excellent tank turtles. Not the best community turtles, juvenile Common Snapping Turtles think everyone's tail is a worm - and will promptly remove them - even other snappers'. We feed ours pellets, cut fish and beef. Water plants are also offered. One study has shown hatchlings to imprint well on early food items.

In the last century, people's taste for Common Snapping Turtles, severely damaged many wild populations. Now, many are farm raised, both in the US and abroad. Wild Snapping Turtles are almost always quite vicious. Captive raised snappers, if handled often, will tame down fairly well. They never loose their fiercely vicious feeding response, and keepers never seem to loose their fascination for them...

Please note that California, Oregon and Washington state do not allow Snapping Turtles to be kept by individuals - so we cannot send Snapping Turtles to those states without special permits. New York State allows Florida Snapping Turtles - but not Common Snapping Turtles.

    common snapping turtle

The turtle is healthy and shy. It starts to eat after I put him into the heated tank. He has arrived for two days and eaten a lot. (about 50 baby turtle pellets per day, divided into tow meals). So far so good. The health condition of the turtle is much better than some online seller's. Although a little pricey, but their shipping cost is way lower than others, which made it still a good deal!

I love it. It’s adorable. I don’t recognize it’s imperfections, it made it to Texas very well, is nice and active. I’m happy with my purchase and will likely use y’all again.

    Hatchling Common Snapper

I was so excited to see my new turtle baby on its arrival! He/she(won’t be able to tell until they get a little bigger) is really active, and curious lol i love letting it walk around the house as i monitor its movements. There’s times where it’ll break and run across the room lol just fun to watch play and all. The turtle is eating good, and I’ll love caring for it for many years to come! Thanks again for such an awesome shell baby!????

My little Munchie arrived yesterday and has acclimated to his new tank and made himself at home already. This is my 2nd common snapping turtle from The Turtle Source , I hope he will grow into a sweet and docile snapper like his older brother Prince ( Prince had to be relocated to my Aunt's private pond when I moved to a smaller space a few years ago and is thriving ) now that I have the appropriate space again , I'm excited to watch Munchie grow !

My little Bitty Crocker looked up at me the moment I took her out of the clear plastic tub. There was a paper towel carpet to ensure her comfort on the truck ride to her forever home. Her neck extends curiously when I approach the tank with shrimp and crickets for her to snack on! She's sweet✨

I am very pleased with my purchase! The turtle I received is healthy and full of personality!!! He is eating and basking in the light. He has a great temperament and appears healthy. I will most likely purchase again in the future.

One Turtle was so small I was looking for a yoke sac, before this order you sent all with out tails for full price, sent me a email saying you would send an extra turtle, but then when I asked you said that was a mistake. Website works horribly, not
