Product Description

This year we finally saw the success of our ten year long breeding project to produce our very own form of Albino Common, and Albino Florida Snapping Turtles.

We began with a completely new form of Albino Snapper male. The first generation females (the grand mothers of this year's hatchlings ) are all bright yellow hypos with black eyes. These came from the very same pretty Hypo line that we were well known for in the early 2000s.

We grew up the prettiest Hypo females from hatchlings and eventually put them with our new form of male Albino once they were all adults.

Mixing this hypo gene in with our original Albino males has made for a very pretty and unique form of Albinos - that we are particularly proud of :  )

We are now 3 generations in and what we are hatching is a very pretty white and pink Albino Snapper. Their shells hatch out pure white - like freshly cooked rice, and their eyes look like deep red little rubies, with faint bluish rings on the skin around their eyes.

Looking at these amazing little Albino Snappers, they are most appreciated alongside a normal colored (black/brown) Snapper - or in this case, a normal colored Heterozygous Snapper.

Our Albino Snapper Offerings:

1) We have pure Albino Common Snappers, both males and females for $1495 each.

Each Albino comes with a normal looking (black/brown) 66% chance for heterozygous Snapper of the opposite sex.

So if you order an Albino male, you will also receive a normal colored, 66% chance for het female - all for $1495 for both turtles.

And, if you order an Albino female, you will also receive a normal colored, 66% chance for heterozygous male - all for $1495 for both turtles.

* It is important to note that while snappers are an aggressive species, hatchlings raised together normally get along very well...

2) We also offer the 66% chance for heterozygous for Albinism, normal looking (black/brown) Common Snappers, of both sexes, sold separately, for $395 each.

3) We do have a limited number of 100% heterozygous for Albinism, normal looking (black/brown) female Common Snappers, sold separately for $795 each...

4) Additionally, we have a very small number of Albino Snappers with imperfect (bent or curved) tails, and they are otherwise perfect. Each of these Albinos comes complete with a 66% chance for heterozygous normal looking (black/brown) Snapper of the opposite sex - all for $895 - for both turtles.

We have been very careful to keep track of each clutch we've hatched and we can make certain that Het's that go with each Albino will have at least different mothers, and will come from different clutches - different parents are not so important with turtles - but genetic diversity from different parents can't hurt...

Their care and description is identical to normal colored Common Snappers and follows:

One of North America's most recognizable fully aquatic Turtles, the Common Snapping Turtle, inhabits nearly all bodies of slow moving, soft bottomed water, fresh and brackish, from Nova Scotia to Mexico, east of the Rocky Mountains. In Florida it gives way to the Florida Snapping Turtle.

Common Snapping Turtles are true omnivores, and will eat anything they can fit into their mouths. Juveniles freely forage for food, while adults prefer to be ambush predators, lying in wait for the next passing meal. These tendencies make all sizes excellent tank turtles. Not the best community turtles, juvenile Common Snapping Turtles think everyone's tail is a worm - and will promptly remove them - even other snappers'. We feed ours pellets, cut fish and beef. Water plants are also offered. One study has shown hatchlings to imprint well on early food items.

In the last century, people's taste for Common Snapping Turtles, severely damaged many wild populations. Now, many are farm raised, both in the US and abroad. Wild Snapping Turtles are almost always quite vicious. Captive raised snappers, if handled often, will tame down fairly well. They never loose their fiercely vicious feeding response, and keepers never seem to loose their fascination for them...

Please note that California, Oregon and Washington state do not allow Snapping Turtles to be kept by individuals - so we cannot send Snapping Turtles to those states without special permits. New York State allows Florida Snapping Turtles - but not Common Snapping Turtles - sorry, not even Albino Common Snappers. New York does allow Albino Florida Snappers, which we have only a handful of - contact us directly to order one of these.

The snapping turtle is insanely cool and rare. The price is so realistic also.
