Chinese Golden Thread Turtles (Ocadia sinensis) are found in the lowland swamps, ponds and marshes of southern China, Taiwan and North Vietnam. They are well known for their very pretty yellow green to golden head and neck stripes, Golden Thread turtles are very active swimmers and bask frequently.
True omnivores, Chinese Golden Thread Turtles eat a variety of aquatic plants, and some insects and fish. Ours readily take pellets, super worms, cut fish, earth worms and romaine lettuce. Their needs are very simple, they are semi aquatic turtles that don't mind deeper water.
Ocadia sinensis has long been the victim of intense pressure from the Chinese food markets. It's status in the wild is at best uncertain. It is the hard work of a few innovative American breeders that make limited numbers of them available in the US...
