BASIC INFORMATION:

One of the best and most common choices for garden ponds, adult Western Painted Turtles quickly learn and adapt to their new environments, constantly bask and surface, and learn to recognize their keepers quickly. They add lots of color to your garden pond, and are more visible than most pond turtles. Ours readily eat pellets, water plants, romaine lettuce and cut fish. An excellent choice for both warm and colder climates, Western Painted Turtles get along with most other popular garden pond species.

Western Painted Turtles grow to be the largest of the painted turtles (typically 6- 7 inches). They range from Canada to Mexico, so adults, once acclimated, make very good outdoor pond turtles in all climates. Juveniles do well in community tanks, learn to come to feeding hands, love to bask, and stay very active.

True omnivores, they will eat pellets, most water plants, romaine lettuce, insects, fish, worms crustaceans and meat. Western Painted Turtles are distinctly different from other painteds in that they have very impressive red and black belly patterns. An excellent choice for beginning and intermediate keepers.
